The BMW Z4’s successor, the Z5, remains on course to be revealed in the middle of 2018 and is being co-developed with Toyota along with a new Supra successor which will launch soon after.
The two-seat Z4 roadster came to us in 2009 and carried a respectable £30,000 to £40,000 price mark. This was widely available and accepted as the price was followed up by a well-designed vehicle which was capable of living up to its name.
As it was predicted, BMW have fully halted their production of the older model to prepare for the launch of the newer sports car which was developed on an entirely new platform with Toyota.
Prior to the Z4 came the Z3 in 2002. The first generation BMW Z4 was originally a soft-top, then the second-generation featured a folding hard-top roof. Although all of that is now over as the latest, final model has left the production lives just days ago.
The Z4 came with a 2.0-litre petrol engine capable of outputs of 181bhp or 242bhop. There was also a six-cylinder 201bhp 2.5-litre powerplant, as well as a 3.0-litre engine in three states of tune: 255bhp, 302bhp and 335bhp.
The Z5 has been spotted outside during testing not long ago and this revealed that it could be subjected to a treatment of hybrid technology. The Z4’s rear-wheel only drive could also be affected as the Z5 is expected to have an optional all-wheel drive.
Another thing we can gather from the prototype spotted is that the new Z5 could be going back to the soft-top convertible style of the older, first-generation Z3 model.
